IRAN: A THREAT TO THE UNITED STATES?

Issues to be addressed include:

• The century-long history of big power intervention in Iran.
• The US-Iran conflict over Iran's nuclear energy program.  What are the international legal issues?  What do the Iranian people think?
• Impact of sanctions or US military intervention.  What is the likely impact on Iran and on the region?
• US foreign policy in Iran and the region.  Whose interests are being served?  What is the objective?  What is the role of oil and other resources?  What role does religion play?  Is there common ground between the US and Iran?

Simin Royanian, economist and political analyst; activist in the peace and justice movement; she has served on boards of WPFW and of AFSCME, Fairfax Chapter.

Richard E. Rubenstein, Professor of Conflict Resolution and Public Affairs, Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution, George Mason University.  His latest book, Thus Saith the Lord:  The Revolutionary Morality of Isaiah and Jeremiah, will be published in October.
