Lucius Walker, Leader of Pastors for Peace, Dies
by CubaDebate 7 September 2010 The Reverend Lucius Walker died, this morning, of a massive heart attack in New York at the age of 80, CubaDebate was informed by sources from Pastors for Peace, the organization that he led. Pastors for Peace, organizing US-Cuba Friendshipment Caravans, has systematically broken the US blockade on Cuba, bringing the island computers, buses, and medicines for the Cuban people. Lucius, who was born on 3 August 1930, also distinguished himself by being a tireless fighter for the freedom of the five Cuban prisoners held in the United States. He was one of the founders of the Interreligious Foundation for Community Organization (IFCO), established in 1967. From 1973 to 1978, he was Associate General Secretary of the National Council of Churches in the United States. Since 1992, he and IFCO/Pastors for Peace have endeavored to put an end to the immoral and unjust US economic blockade against Cuba, providing humanitarian aid to the Cuban people through Friendshipment Caravans and construction brigades.
