Former Palestinian Prisoners Mark International Women’s Day

Former Palestinian female prisoners as well as wives and daughters of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails held a sit-in in front of the office of the international committee of the Red Cross in Gaza on the occasion of international women’s day. . . . Families of prisoners seized the occasion and called on all Palestinians to unite and end the rift for the sake of their beloved ones.  According to the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, since 1967 more than 800,000 Palestinians, including 15,000 women, have been detained by Israel. . . .  Prisoners say the main problem facing female detainees is isolation and medical negligence.  Some like Fatemeh al-Zeqq gave birth inside an Israeli prison while handcuffed to a bed. . . .  Currently there are around 8000 Palestinian prisoners serving time in Israeli prisons, many without being charged or ever facing trial.
