On 9 April 1948, the Irgun and the Stern Gang, with the approval of the Haganah, attacked Deir Yassin, a village of about 750 Palestinians, located between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Over 100 men, women, and children were massacred, and 53 orphaned children were left along the wall of the Old City. The Deir Yassin massacre happened shortly after Plan Dalet was put into operation. The objective of Plan Dalet included “gaining control of the areas of Jewish settlement and concentration which are located outside the borders [of the Hebrew state] against regular, semi-regular, and small forces operating from bases outside or inside the state” (emphasis added, “Plan Dalet [10 March 1948]”). One of the operations to be carried out under the plan was “[d]estruction of villages (setting fire to, blowing up, and planting mines in the debris), especially those population centers which are difficult to control continuously” (emphasis added, “Plan Dalet [10 March 1948]”).

Zochrot, Deir Yassin Remembered, and Deir Yassin community in Abu Dis commemoration in Jerusalem on April 10th. Zochrot is planning to march from Kanfei Nesharim St. to and around Kfar Shaul hospital, the actual village of Deir Yassin.
